A kitchen studio operated by editor Taketoshi Onishi and photographer Yuji Kanno, renovated from a room within a former wooden ryokan.
The original ceiling was removed to expose the structural beams, securing the vertical clearance required for a professional photography studio. Mechanical systems, including lighting and HVAC, were relocated to higher positions to ensure they do not interfere with studio equipment or camera angles. The lighting plan subtly illuminates the aged timber of the beams and roof, highlighting the building’s historic character. For maximum versatility, a mobile kitchen was designed to allow for flexible layouts tailored to specific shooting requirements.
